My little boy is so excited for Miss Peregrine’s School for Peculiar Children to come out. It’s the perfect pre-Halloween movie. From the trailer, we discovered that a pocket watch is integral to the plot of the movie. So, we made our own play version to bring along with us. Here’s how to make your own:

What you’ll need:
Gold and white duct tape
Cardboard
Scissors
Black Sharpie marker
Pencil or pen

Step 1: Using a pencil, draw a basic pocket-watch shape on the cardboard. It doesn’t have to be perfect! In fact, that’s encouraged in my opinion.

Step 2: Cover the side of the cardboard that isn’t drawn on with the gold duct tape. Cut out the shape using the scissors.

Step 3: Use the white duct tape to cut out a circle. This will be the face of the pocket watch. Place it on the pocket watch and use your sharpie to draw on the clock features.

Step. 4 (optional): If you’re feeling more ambitious, make the hour and minute hands separately, as seen in this project. That way, you can practice telling time with the kids as you wait for the movie if they’re old enough.
