Spruce up your balcony or patio with these industrial gilded planters. You can make them in a variety of shapes and sizes and they’re sure to make a big impact in your outdoor space!

Materials:
Concrete
Large bucket
Large stir stick
Gloves
A selection of recycled cartons and cans for the molds (milk cartons, a large cream cheese container, a water bottle and a can)
Water
Rocks
Utility knife
Masking tape
Gold spray paint
Clear coat spray paint

STEP 1: Raid your recycling bin for a few cartons and cans to use as molds for the planter. Play around with them and pair up a larger one with a smaller one. You will need to cut the tops off of the cartons.

STEP 2: Mix your concrete in the bucket with water and stir until you get a thick paste. Add more concrete or water as necessary.

STEP 3: Fill one of the larger molds with concrete almost to the top. Fill the smaller one with rocks or something heavy and wiggle into the larger one. The rocks will hold it in place. Set aside and repeat with remaining molds.

STEP 4: After several hours of drying, remove the inside mold and loosely put it back into place. This step ensures you are able to get it out once it has dried completely.

STEP 5: Once fully dry remove all of the molds. You may need to use an utility knife to remove the molds.

STEP 6: Next is prepping for the spray paint. Tape off the areas that you do not want to paint. Firmly press down on the tape so that the paint doesn’t seep through and so that you will end up with a clean line.

STEP 7: Spray the exposed areas with the paint and set aside to dry.

STEP 8: Remove the tape and spray the entire planter with the clear coat spray to protect it from weather elements.

STEP 9: Fill the planter with your favourite plants!
