It happened. The Hello Kitty craze has hit our house. This glowing Hello Kitty lantern is probably the easiest craft I’ve done in awhile. I have to admit, I was super impressed with how perfect it turned out and I can’t wait to show you how easy it is!

For the Hello Kitty lantern, you will need:

  • A 14 inch white paper lantern (just like THIS one)
  • White, yellow, and black craft foam (found HERE or at your craft store)
  • Black pipe cleaners
  • Red card stock paper

To make the Hello Kitty lantern:

Cut out rounded triangles with a base that forms to the shape of the paper lantern (seen below). I eyeballed it and it doesn’t have to be perfect. Cut out a yellow oval nose and 2 black oval eyes. Hot glue the ears, nose, and eyes onto the paper lantern.
Hot glue the black pipe cleaners onto each side of the lantern for whiskers. I cut the middle whisker on each side down a little, but that’s optional.

Click on this bow printable (I found on google), drag the image to your desktop, and  print it onto your red card stock. I had to cut a piece of scrapbook paper down to a 8 1/2″ x 11″ beforehand.

Cut out the red bow and hot glue it to the paper lantern. If your bow is not standing straight up, simply roll a piece of red paper up behind it, and secure it with some hot glue (to prop the bow up into place). That is optional though:)

I used fishing line to hang this lantern, but you can get creative with whatever you have. You don’t have to use a glowing lantern, but if you do, simply put some batteries inside and watch it glow at night! It is SO cute!
