After a while, the cylinder on most office chairs will go out and cause the chair to sink on its own. When this happens you can fix it! Follow the simple steps in this article to get your chair as good as new again!

Method 1 of 2: Desk Chair with Weight Limit

1. Set the chair to your preferred height.

2. Flip it upside down so the wheels are facing up.

3. Remove any chair cover. If there is a plastic cover over the cylinder move it out of the way so you can wash and dry the cylinder with the cloth and the cleaner.
You need to clean any dirt, oil, dust, etc. that might cause the Jubilee Clip to slip once tightened.

4. Open the Jubilee Clip. Grab the Jubilee Clip and loosen it by turning the screw counter clockwise until the belt end leaves the clamp.

5. Wrap the Jubilee Clip around the cylinder. Close but don’t tighten it. Keep it loose enough that it can move up or down along the shaft.
You will need to turn the screw clockwise to get it to close fully and this can be difficult.

6. Flip the chair upright again. Make sure its at the right height for you.
Once you’ve done with this entire operation and clamp the chair, it will be difficult to adjust the height in the future, as the clamping of a Jubilee Clip onto the chair will break the seal. So be sure its the right height for you before you continue.

7. Tighten the Jubilee Clip. Put the Jubilee Clip on the spot where the shaft meets the base of the chair and tighten it by turning the screw clockwise. Don’t strip the screw if you plan to change the height in the future.
If done correctly, the chair will no longer sink and can be used again.

Method 2 of 2: Desk Chair with Higher Weight Limit

1. Set the chair to your preferred height.

2. Flip it on its back so the wheels are facing your feet.

3. Remove any chair cover. If there is a plastic cover over the cylinder move it out of the way.
Once you’ve done with this entire operation it will be difficult to adjust the height in the future. So be sure its still the right height for you before you continue and you might want to put a mark in that spot with a marker to make it easier.

4. Drill a hole in the center of the shaft right where the it meets the base of the chair but remember to use a drill bit that is the right size for the screw you will be using.
Don’t strip the screw if you plan to change the height in the future.

5. Insert the screw into the hole you just drilled out and tighten it as needed.
If done correctly, the chair will no longer sink and can be used again.
