My holidays are full of quick and easy ideas, like these easy wooden beverage tags. During this holiday entertaining season, it makes sense to keep things as simple as possible. Not entertaining? It’s all good – these same wood tags can be used for almost anything from organizing to gift wrap, so it’s a great basic project for almost anyone.

First, you’ll need a few supplies:

  • 1/2 inch thick pine wood, 4 inches wide (different lengths are available at Lowe’s)
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Compound miter saw (or a table saw will work, too)
  • Fine Grit Sandpaper
  • Colored Pencils
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Clear Sealer (spray version works best)

Let’s make it happen!

First, measure down the length of your wood, 1 1/2 inches apart, as many wooden beverage tags as you’d like (I did an entire plank.).

Using either a compound saw or a table saw, center the blade on the marks so they will all be even. Next, measure the skinny end, and make a mark 1/2 an inch from the edge in the center.

Using a drill with a medium size bit, drill a hole through the mark, so you have a hole to hang the ribbon.

Next, sand the pieces well, all the way around. You could do it with a sander, but a plain piece of paper works just fine.

Then, using the colored pencil (in any color) write on the beverage marker (or name, or whatever you’d like.) Once all written out, use a spray sealer and give the pieces a couple of light coats of spray to seal them well. You could also use stamps and ink if you prefer for a more finished look.

Once dry, add on your ribbon and you’re done!
