If there’s one thing every entryway has that would be a shoe organizer. It’s a crucial piece because it allows you to have a well-organized, clean and neat entryway and to also have a practical way of storing all your shoes. If you’d rather not buy a shoe rack or if you can’t find the design you like, try instead to make it yourself. There are plenty of designs and ideas you can use.

PVC pipe shoe racks

Here’s an interesting idea: use PVC pipes to make an eye-catching and practical shoe rack. It’s a concept similar to the cable management systems we’ve showed you which were made from empty toilet paper rolls. These are bigger but follow the same pattern. Stack them and combine them to get the shape and design you want.

Ladder shoe racks

If, for whatever reason, you happen to have a ladder in your house, then put it to good use. Use it as a shoe rack. A ladder with thin rods is perfect for heels and one with platforms instead of rods is more versatile. You can also use the ladder to store scarves, hats and other accessories. Another great thing about such a shoe rack is that it takes up very little floor space.

There are also lots of other types of designs you can use. For example, this stand lets you display your shoe collections with pride. Arrange them on multiple levels according to your own rules.

These shelves look a lot like those old trays for making bread. They’re metallic and have a nice patina and they’re also practical.

Be creative and re-purpose items. For example, a wine crate and be a nice shoe rack for the kids. The compartments are small but so are their shoes.

You can also use buckets. Put tags on them and each person can have one. This way the shoes take up less space then they would when arranged on the shelves.

A pallet can also be a great shoe rack. You don’t even have to change anything about it. Just find a good spot.

Here’s another ingenious vertical storage idea for the shoes. They’re all beautifully arranged and they disappear into the wall.

Store your shoes in metal baskets and make a shoe rack perfect for an industrial-style home. Although it’s not a very space-saving idea, it’s definitely interesting.

A cabinet or a shelving unit can also be a very practical idea. This one has a vintage look and compartments of different dimensions.

If you truly want to save space then store your shoes inside the staircase. Each step can have a pull-out drawer and in there you can store all sorts of things, including shoes.

We’ve already mentioned that wooden pallets make great shoe racks so here’s another example. It’s a versatile piece and you can easily change its location.
